Holmes Budget Address response 02-19-25SPRINGFIELD – Assistant Majority Leader Linda Holmes (D-Aurora) joined her colleagues Wednesday to hear Governor JB Pritzker introduce his Fiscal 2026 budget proposal to the General Assembly, and released the following statement in response:

“Over the past few years, we’ve built a secure fiscal position for Illinois: We paid down debts, earned nine credit rating upgrades, paid our full annual pension obligations, paid off the unemployment insurance trust fund debt, established a rainy day fund, and invested in substantial infrastructure improvements to make us safer in our travels.

“Now we’re faced with several economic challenges and a greater need to protect our stability. My commitment to providing for our communities persists. Our neighbors need support to keep our towns and cities vital: higher education, job training, entrepreneurship and caring for those in need are the backbone of the 42nd District’s growth. Federal funds for these endeavors are being targeted, along with thousands of jobs. We must challenge these attacks.

“The annual budget address is the beginning of a process. Over the coming months, we’ll work together to negotiate a measured, thorough approach to balance our residents’ needs in the face of ongoing economic uncertainties for our state and nation.”
