AURORA – State Senator Linda Holmes has announced that five school districts in Kane and DuPage counties will receive an additional $1.8 million in evidence-based funding, on top of the base funding provided by the state.
“Added funding for our public schools since we implemented the evidence-based approach is leading to improved student outcomes,” said Holmes (D-Aurora). “Our local school districts are seeing progress in their students’ accomplishments that reflect the high-quality education they and their families deserve.”
The funding comes from the 2017 Illinois Senate Democrat-backed evidence-based funding formula — an overhaul of the way the state funds K-12 education. The law made school funding more equitable by calculating the needs of individual school districts and basing state revenue on those needs. The formula takes into account a district’s total enrollment, poverty rate and number of special education or English language learners, among other factors.
School districts across the area Holmes represents set to receive funding through the formula include:
- Indian Prairie School District 204: $650,712
- Batavia Public School District 101: $4,785
- West Aurora School District 129: $1,212,948
- Charles Community Unit School District 303: $11,098
- Geneva Community Unit School District 304: $4,616
The Fiscal Year 2026 budget invested $300 million in new funding into students’ success through the evidence-based funding model.
