holmes 011123SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Linda Holmes was sworn in to the Illinois Senate today during the inauguration ceremony beginning the 103rd Session of the General Assembly at the Old State Capitol. She has served as State Senator for the 42nd District since 2006.

“It is such a privilege to have the confidence and trust of the residents of the 42nd District,” said Holmes (D-Aurora). “The past few years have been quite challenging with the public health, unemployment and economic issues the COVID-19 pandemic wrought, but we’ve been able to rebound, regain and surpass our previous economic standing.”

Holmes organizes sock drive for homeless veterans

holmes 2022 sock driveAURORA – To help area veterans who are experiencing homelessness this winter, State Senator Linda Holmes, working with Guardian Corps of America, is holding a sock drive to benefit shelters across the 42nd District.

“Socks are a major sought-out item of clothing by people experiencing homelessness,” said Holmes (D-Aurora). “With winter approaching, I’m asking people to consider donating a pair of new socks to help our heroes in need to keep warm.”

Worn-out or ragged socks put people at serious risk of foot disease and, during the winter months, in severe danger from the cold. As a result, new socks are greatly needed by those experiencing homelessness — but they are the least donated clothing item at homeless shelters.

holmes safet 120122SPRINGFIELD – Illinois State Senator Linda Holmes has released the following statement in response to Thursday’s vote in the Senate to amend a criminal justice reform law that address issues of pretrial fairness in House Bill 1095:

“I appreciate the months of work by the stakeholders in this long process to reach consensus in amending the SAFE-T Act,” Holmes (D-Aurora) said. “As promised, numerous clarifications were made so that the bill would be interpreted and enacted in a uniform manner throughout the state in each of our 102 counties.”

Senator Holmes announces grants to improve local COVID-19 health equity strategies

holmes HC access 102122Aurora – The COVID-19 pandemic worsened the health inequities facing communities throughout Illinois. Two organizations in Kane and Kendall counties have been awarded funding to implement health equity strategies, State Senator Linda Holmes announced Wednesday.  

“The pandemic revealed undesirable inequalities in health outcomes for people in minority and rural communities,” said Holmes (D-Aurora). “This makes prioritizing access and inclusion in health care more crucial than ever.”

Activating Relationships in Illinois for Systemic Equity (ARISE) is a joint initiative of the Illinois Department of Public Health’s Center for Minority Health Services and The Center for Rural Health, in collaboration with Well-Being and Equity (WE) in the World.

Kane County’s Rainbow Café and Coordinated Care Alliance in Kane and Kendall counties are two of the 18 organizations across Illinois awarded funding to address systemic health disparities highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
